News on Sports Betting From Canada
The bureaucrats of Canada are against internet gambling, whereas they do support sports betting. In fact The Toronto Star reports that the government of Canada, along with officials of Ontario, is planning to start sports betting at land casinos just like Las Vegas. Land casinos are not offering favorable results at many places, so gambling companies want betting to be allowed.
Some newspapers report that the casinos in Ontario have all the arrangements for betting, but it is limited to government funded organizations.
The new law would allow bettors to wager the results of most of the games like hockey, football, soccer, and basketball, etc.
This request was promoted by Ontario minister, David Kaplan to Rob Nicholson, the justice minister.
If this proposal is accepted, then Ontario casinos will have a huge advantage over their American counterparts. Sports’ betting is permitted in L.A because the professional leagues are not in favor of the idea of having different teams.
Newspaper NDP reports that MP Joe Coe Martin has come up to Nicholson many times to support him. He informed that since sports’ betting is not permitted in NY/Michigan, the casinos in Windsor and Niagara Falls would benefit with betting. He also added that such betting would generate large crowds into the casinos and the business will get a boost. A former official, Jim Warren, at Ontario for gaming and Lottery Commission, said that in-Canada sports betting would help the tourism industry with increase in number of tourists.
