Regulated Sports Betting Required

Regulated Sports Betting Required – NYC Police

The New York City police commissioner said that illegal betting is bad for the society. It has been reported a number of times by gambling analysts, that sports gambling should be regulated to curb the increasing sports betting black market.

According to Raymond W. Kelly, “Illegal gambling and money laundering are not victimless crimes.” He further added, “The proceeds from illegal sports betting are used to fuel organized crime and support harmful criminal enterprises.”

NYC police chief says that despite the national ban against the sports betting activity, it continues in untaxed and illegal way. New Jersey and Delaware are the leading states that are fighting against the Justice Department, and NFL, and want sports gambling to be legal.

NFL defies the claims of having high number of sports betters, by saying that only a small percentage of fans are into sports betting. They say that betting on football involves dealings worth many billion dollars.

Illegal sports’ betting is harmful, both for government and consumers. This activity should be regulates so that the state can earn revenues, and consumer’s interests can be protected.

Raymond Kelly also announced the capture of about 40 people from a few states, who took about 200 million dollars over 3 years. The commissioner also felt the requirement to control the sports betting activity, for the benefit of both government, and betters.
