Markell during his governor’s campaign had said that he would legalize sports betting in the state to cover up the deficit, but when his bill was voted initially, it was rejected by the Delaware house.

After a long negotiation between Markell and the state legislators, there was a compromise. Later Markell said that he was pleased that the legislature acted swiftly in passing the lottery legislation.

But the NFL and the NCAA who pitted against the bill sent an email stating that all the people involved in the administration of sports association should evaluate today’s action and its result.

The Wilmington News Journal reported that the NFL had filed a suit in the Supreme Court and has been scheduled a hearing by the court for May 21.

Markell wants his betting bill to pass as soon as possible by the senate and Delaware house before the onset of NFL season. As that is when most of the betting activities take place.

Markell wanted the Supreme court to make it clear whether head-to head betting is authorized in the state or not. But the court waited till the bill became law. And so Markell hopes to win more votes in his favor.

Lesnaik has made it clear that the state would earn around $100 million a year in tax revenue, due to sports betting. He is convinced that if the governor Chris Christie signs on the lawsuit, it will have a positive prospect.
