Sports Betting To Be Legalized In Casinos & Racetracks In New Jersey

The state legislature declared in May 2010 in Trenton, to get a vote to pave way for New Jersey to make sports betting legal at casinos and racetracks. The bill, which is sponsored by Sen. Raymond Lesnaik, would pose a query on the vote in November, to alter the state constitution so that the senate could pass the law permitting sports betting.

Lesnaik expects the bill to pass the legislature today and tabled in the assembly soon. He also added that the bill would require 2/3rd majority to get on election later this year. He said that he was confident that they’ll have it on the ballot in November.

Apart from the four states: Delaware, Montana, Nevada and Oregon, sports’ betting has been banned by the federal government since 1992, mainly on the request of qualified sports associations. To show their solidarity for the New Jersey casino groups, the officials allowed a year’s time to legalize sports betting, but the legislation to table the issue before voters failed in the legislature.

But a complaint was filed by Lesnaik with numerous betting requests to topple the law stating discrimination against N.J and 45 other states where sports’ betting is banned.

Lesnaik has made it clear that the state would earn around $100 million a year in tax revenue, due to sports betting. He is convinced that if the governor Chris Christie signs on the lawsuit, it will have a positive prospect.

According to Lesnaik this would be identical to Tiger Woods winning a tournament by a 10 foot putt.
